2nd Lieutenant William Porter Palgrave Archdale

 

 

Born 1 December 1883, son of the Rt. Hon. Edward Mervyn Archdale, 1st Bt. and Alicia Bland Archdale (nee Fleming), Archdale was educated at Portora Royal School, Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh.

He was commissioned on 26 July 1903 and posted to the North of Ireland Imperial Yeomanry, serving with that regiment until he resigned his commission on 21 January 1905.

He moved to Sudan in 1910, where he managed the Sudan Cotton Plantations Syndicate for the next three decades. He was awarded a CBE in the King's Birthday Honours List of 2 June 1943.

Archdale died at Umtentweni, Natal, in South Africa on 2 November 1956.
